Understanding Sectigo Site Seals and the Value They Add

One aspect of SSL/TLS certificates that not enough people leverage is the site seal. You’ve gone through the trouble of letting a trusted certificate authority (CA) verify you — why not advertise that fact? Most people recognize these security companies, so having a seal — such as a Sectigo trust seal — that signifies that they checked you and you’re OK is kind of nice.

Yet, not enough people use their site seals. One of the most powerful seals out there is the Comodo secure seal — or what’s also known as a Sectigo secure site seal. That’s because Sectigo was originally Comodo CA before it rebranded last year. Its site seal is still as powerful as ever, though — or you can still get a Comodo secure seal, if you’d prefer.

There are dozens of sites seals that can be obtained for a myriad of reasons. But when it comes to SSL/TLS, the site seals are especially powerful because they can help you assert your identity and showcase your security.

Your Sectigo trust seal says that you’ve had the world’s foremost certificate authority vet your organization and its website and you passed with flying colors. Why wouldn’t you want to advertise that?

How Do I Get a Sectigo Trust Seal?

Well, the first part is getting a Sectigo SSL/TLS certificate. Depending on what kind of site you have, you may want to consider going with a higher-value business authentication certificate, which will assert more identity than its lower-value counterparts.

Once you’ve gotten the certificate issued, Sectigo will send you a link to a page full of its site seals. Simply select the one you want, copy the code on to your website wherever you want to deploy it, and voila! It’s on your site.

But that’s only half the battle. You need to teach your customers to look for the seal, too. Sectigo trust seals are dynamic. This means you can click on them and they show verified organizational information, as well as the last time your site was successfully scanned for malware. This can be a huge help in assuaging any doubts your customers may have.

The best part is that you can’t fake a dynamic Sectigo site seal. That’s why it’s important to teach your customers to click on it. Anyone can toss an image file in a footer, but they can’t make it dynamic. Therein lies the difference.

If you’re already using your Sectigo Secure site seal — good on ya! If not, now you know why you should be. Why not take a minute to do it?
