A certificate signing request<\/a> (CSR) is a crucial part of getting an SSL\/TLS certificate installed on your website. Without a CSR, you\u2019re not going to be able to get your certificate issued by a trusted and reputable certificate authority<\/a> (CA). Part of the CSR generation process, however, requires you to provide your SSL country code.<\/p>\n

This often leads to people asking us what an SSL certificate country code is and how it\u2019s used. Luckily, we\u2019re here to explain it to them and will now share that tidbit of info with you.<\/p>\n

What is an SSL Country Code?<\/h2>\n

An SSL certificate country code is a two-letter code that\u2019s used when you generate a CSR<\/a>. Whether you\u2019re generating a CSR using cPanel or OpenSSL, you\u2019ll need to know and enter an SSL country code.<\/p>\n

Sometimes these codes are pretty intuitive, such as \u201cUS\u201d for the United States and \u201cIE\u201d for Ireland. Others may be a little less intuitive. For example, the two-digit code for the United Kingdom is GB for Great Britain.<\/p>\n
