As per their report, if a hacker tries to attack a public hotspot using a Man-in-the-Middle attack, the POODLE vulnerability helps the hackers to downgrade a browser\u2019s SSL version with older SSL 3.0 instead of the highly secured TLS version.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today, a large number of servers and browsers are supporting SSL version 3.0 (SSLv3) and hackers are more than happy to exploit them by forcing them to downgrade the browser&#8217;s security protocol version. Even in case, the browser is trying to use an upgraded version, due to this vulnerability, it will be forced to use the old SSLv3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How do I get rid of the POODLE vulnerability?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The only solution to get rid of the POODLE vulnerability is disabling SSL 3.0 from browsers and servers.<\/li>\n<li>And as a precautionary step, users are requested to avoid using public hotspots, WiFi, or they should access these networks using a VPN (Virtual Private Network).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>How to Disable SSL 3.0 in Different Web Browsers for Windows Users<\/b><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. Disable SSL 3.0 in Google Chrome<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Google Chrome team has decided to completely remove its support towards SSLv3 from all their client products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are a few simple steps:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Step 1:<\/b> Right-click on the <b>Google Chrome<\/b> icon and click on <b>Properties<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Step 2:<\/b> A new pop-up appears that shows information about <b>Google Chrome Properties<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Step 3:<\/b> Now in the <b>Target<\/b> Textbox after <b>\u201c\\~\\application\\chrome.exe\u201d<\/b> write the following piece of code, including space:<\/p>\n<pre>--ssl-version-min=tls1<\/pre>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Your target text box should now look similar to this: \u201c\\~\\application\\chrome.exe \u2013ssl-version-min=tls1\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-534\" src=\"https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/disable-ssl-3.0-in-google-chrome.jpg\" alt=\"Disable SSL 3.0 in Google Chrome\" width=\"366\" height=\"510\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Step 4:<\/b> Press &#8216;Apply&#8217; and then click on the &#8216;OK&#8217; button.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this last step, Google Chrome is now free from SSL 3.0. After this, the browser will start rejecting SSL 3.0 certificates.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Disable SSL 3.0 in Mozilla Firefox<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mozilla Firefox team has announced their decision to disable SSLv3 by default, which is set to release on November 25<sup>th<\/sup>, 2014. So, after updating the browser there shall be no need to perform the procedure of disabling SSL 3.0.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, those who prefer not to wait until November 25, here is a step-by-step procedure to disable SSLv3:<\/p>\n<p>To disable SSL 3.0 perform following Steps<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Open your Firefox Browser<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> In URL bar, write about:config &amp; hit enter (to configure Firefox SSL settings)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> <strong>This might void your warranty!<\/strong> the alert will appear, now click on <strong>I\u2019ll be careful, I promise! <\/strong>Button.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> In the Search box, type <strong>security.tls.version.min, <\/strong>now double click on the first result as <strong>security.tls.version.min.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1875\" src=\"https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/disable-sslv3-in-firefox.png\" alt=\"Disable SSLv3 in Firefox\" width=\"733\" height=\"136\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong> The integer value will be 0, now turn the value by 1 and press <strong>OK<\/strong>. Uncheck to disable it.
