A PFX backup file is mandatory to transfer the SSL certificate from one server to another.<\/p>\n<p>In Microsoft IIS 8, to configure the SSL Certificate the user must perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download &amp; Save PFX files.<\/li>\n<li>Export the PFX to IIS 8.<\/li>\n<li>Import the PFX SSL File.<\/li>\n<li>Enable SSL Certificate file on IIS 8 Server (no Binding for HTTPS). OR<\/li>\n<li>Enable SSL Certificate file on IIS 8 Server (Binding for HTTPS)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong><em> Before adding the .pfx file into IIS 8, the user must install the SSL Certificate into IIS 8.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now, let\u2019s expand a little bit on the steps we listed above.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 1: Download and Save PFX Files<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Once the user completes the Certificate issuance process, and the Certificate Authority (CA) verifies Domain\/Business\/Both, they will issue the Certificate file via email. The user needs to download the SSL certificate files (in PFX format) and save them at a safe location on the server or on a local drive.<\/p>\n<p>You can use your CA Dashboard to download the issued SSL certificate files.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Note:<\/em><\/strong><em> If the Files provided by CA are not in .pfx format, you can use the online SSL converter tool.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 2: Export the PFX File to IIS 8<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>From the <strong>Start Menu, <\/strong>type <strong>MMC<\/strong>, and press\n<ul>\n<li>Or press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong>, type <strong>MMC<\/strong>, and press<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>File &gt; Add Remove Snap-ins <\/strong>or press<strong> Ctrl + M.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A new dialogue box will appear.<\/li>\n<li>Here, from the list of snap-ins, select <strong>Certificates<\/strong> and click the <strong>Add&gt;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Pick the appropriate <strong>Computer<\/strong> account, click on<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Local Computer<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2991\" src=\"https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/add-certificate-in-snap-ins-iis.jpg\" alt=\"add certificate in snap-ins iis\" width=\"750\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/add-certificate-in-snap-ins-iis.jpg 750w, https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/add-certificate-in-snap-ins-iis-300x154.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/add-certificate-in-snap-ins-iis-768x393.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/add-certificate-in-snap-ins-iis-1024x524.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/add-certificate-in-snap-ins-iis-500x256.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Now, from the <strong>Add or Remove Snap-ins<\/strong> window, click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>From the <strong>Console<\/strong> window, from <strong>Console Root<\/strong> folder, expand <strong>Certificates (Local Computer) (<\/strong>the certificate file will be in Personal or Web Hosting folder).<\/li>\n<li>Now right-click on the certificate file which you are wishing to export.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>All Tasks &gt; Exports<\/strong>, a new Certificate Export wizard will appear.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>From <strong>Export Private Key <\/strong>window, choose <strong>Yes, export the private key<\/strong> and press the <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In file format selection window, Personal Information Exchange \u2013 PKCS #12 (.PFX), then check for <strong>Include all certificates in the certification path if possible<\/strong> option and click the <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3000\" src=\"https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/certificate-export-wizard.png\" alt=\"certificate export wizard iis\" width=\"550\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/certificate-export-wizard.png 550w, https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/certificate-export-wizard-300x286.png 300w, https:\/\/cheapsslsecurity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/certificate-export-wizard-314x300.png 314w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the security window, enter a password and click the \u2018Next\u2019 button.<\/li>\n<li>Browse the location of the file where you are wishing to export the certificate and press <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Now from the <strong>Completing the Certificate Export Wizard<\/strong>, validate whether the settings are correct or not and press the <strong>Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>With \u2018<strong>The export was successful\u2019<\/strong> alert message, .pfx file is successfully exported to the location which you have selected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Step 3: Import the PFX file<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>From the <strong>Start Menu, <\/strong>type <strong>MMC,<\/strong> and press\n<ul>\n<li>Or press <strong>Windows + R<\/strong>, type <strong>MMC<\/strong>, and press<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>File &gt; Add Remove Snap-ins <\/strong>or press<strong> Ctrl + M.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A new dialogue box will appear.<\/li>\n<li>Here select the <strong>Certificates<\/strong> option and click <strong>Add&gt;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Pick the appropriate <strong>Computer<\/strong> account, click on<\/li>\n<li>Click on <strong>Local Computer &gt; Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Close the <strong>Add or Remove Snap-ins<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>expand (&gt;)<\/strong> button to check the local directories available in Console root.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click the certificate file which you are wishing backup.<\/li>\n<li>Now click on <strong>All Tasks &gt;
