Microsoft IIS 8 .PFX File Import and Export<\/h2>\n
All windows servers use .pfx formatted SSL Certificate files during the installation process. A PFX backup file is mandatory to transfer the SSL certificate from one server to another.<\/p>\n
In Microsoft IIS 8, to configure the SSL Certificate the user must perform the following steps:<\/p>\n
\n
Download & Save PFX files.<\/li>\n
Export the PFX to IIS 8.<\/li>\n
Import the PFX SSL File.<\/li>\n
Enable SSL Certificate file on IIS 8 Server (no Binding for HTTPS). OR<\/li>\n
Enable SSL Certificate file on IIS 8 Server (Binding for HTTPS)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Note:<\/em><\/strong> Before adding the .pfx file into IIS 8, the user must install the SSL Certificate into IIS 8.<\/em><\/p>\n
Now, let\u2019s expand a little bit on the steps we listed above.<\/p>\n
Step 1: Download and Save PFX Files<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Once the user completes the Certificate issuance process, and the Certificate Authority (CA) verifies Domain\/Business\/Both, they will issue the Certificate file via email. The user needs to download the SSL certificate files (in PFX format) and save them at a safe location on the server or on a local drive.<\/p>\n
You can use your CA Dashboard to download the issued SSL certificate files.<\/p>\n
Note:<\/em><\/strong> If the Files provided by CA are not in .pfx format, you can use the online SSL converter tool.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
Step 2: Export the PFX File to IIS 8<\/strong><\/h3>\n

From the Start Menu, <\/strong>type MMC<\/strong>, and press\n
\n
Or press Windows + R<\/strong>, type MMC<\/strong>, and press<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Here, from the list of snap-ins, select Certificates<\/strong> and click the Add><\/strong><\/li>\n
Pick the appropriate Computer<\/strong> account, click on<\/li>\n
Click Local Computer<\/strong> > Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/p>\n
\n
Now, from the Add or Remove Snap-ins<\/strong> window, click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
From the Console<\/strong> window, from Console Root<\/strong> folder, expand Certificates (Local Computer) (<\/strong>the certificate file will be in Personal or Web Hosting folder).<\/li>\n
Now right-click on the certificate file which you are wishing to export.<\/li>\n
Click All Tasks > Exports<\/strong>, a new Certificate Export wizard will appear.<\/li>\n
Click the Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
From Export Private Key <\/strong>window, choose Yes, export the private key<\/strong> and press the Next<\/strong><\/li>\n
In file format selection window, Personal Information Exchange \u2013 PKCS #12 (.PFX), then check for Include all certificates in the certification path if possible<\/strong> option and click the Next<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

In the security window, enter a password and click the \u2018Next\u2019 button.<\/li>\n
Browse the location of the file where you are wishing to export the certificate and press Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Now from the Completing the Certificate Export Wizard<\/strong>, validate whether the settings are correct or not and press the Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n
With \u2018The export was successful\u2019<\/strong> alert message, .pfx file is successfully exported to the location which you have selected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Step 3: Import the PFX file<\/strong><\/h3>\n

From the Start Menu, <\/strong>type MMC,<\/strong> and press\n
\n
Or press Windows + R<\/strong>, type MMC<\/strong>, and press<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Here select the Certificates<\/strong> option and click Add><\/strong><\/li>\n
Pick the appropriate Computer<\/strong> account, click on<\/li>\n
Click on Local Computer > Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
Close the Add or Remove Snap-ins<\/strong><\/li>\n
Click the expand (>)<\/strong> button to check the local directories available in Console root.<\/li>\n
Right-click the certificate file which you are wishing backup.<\/li>\n
Now click on All Tasks > Import.<\/strong><\/li>\n
A new Certificate Import Wizard<\/strong> will appear.<\/li>\n
Click on Next<\/strong>, browse the .pfx SSL file, again click on<\/li>\n
Select Automatically place the certificates in the certificate stores based on the type of the certificate<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/p>\n

\u2018The import was successful\u2019 message will be displayed.<\/li>\n
PFX SSL certificate file is imported successfully, now close the Console<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Step 4: Enable SSL Certificate on IIS 8 Server (no Binding for HTTPS)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

From the start menu, search for Administrative Tools<\/strong>, open it and double-click on Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
From IIS manager<\/strong>, click on the Server<\/strong><\/li>\n
Expand<\/strong> site folders and select the site which you are wishing to secure.<\/li>\n
Now, from the Action Menu<\/strong>, select Bindings\u2026<\/strong> located under the Edit Site<\/strong><\/li>\n
From the Site Bindings\u2026 windows click the Add<\/strong>\n\n
If the binding<\/strong> for https already exists, then select it and click the Edit<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
Now,\n\n
Select the Type as HTTPS.<\/li>\n
Assign a Specific IP Address.<\/li>\n
Keep the port as 443 (443 is HTTPS port).<\/li>\n
Select the Hostname for which you are wishing to add the certificate.<\/li>\n
Click the OK<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
Finally, the SSL certificate is installed on your server and your website is now ready to use HTTPS.<\/li>\n
Close the IIS Manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Step 5: Enable SSL Certificate on IIS 8 Server (Binding for HTTPS)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
